Postnatal MOT

When you have a baby your total focus is on your new precious bundle, understandably! However, you are also at your most vulnerable and postnatal care is essential to ensure you are strong and healthy not only to care for your little one, but to enjoy the time as well.

Your body goes through profound physical changes both during pregnancy and in the birth itself. The Postnatal MOT is a comprehensive assessment of your posture, pelvic floor muscles and tummy gap check, plus and particular concerns you may have. Up to half of all women experience abdominal or pelvic weakness after pregnancy and up to a third still have a tummy gap at eight weeks post-birth. This can cause instability leading to women developing pelvic or back pain, or bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction.

It’s recommended that women have an initial assessment 6-8 weeks after giving birth, but we also treat women who gave birth years ago that may still have a tummy gap or related pelvic floor issues. Linda will provide you with gentle exercises and treatment to help with your recovery – and get you back on track with your fitness goals.

Assessment includes

Detailed consultation discussing birth and any issues arising from this, plus general health and well being

Full postural screening

Screening for bowel, bladder or sexual dysfunction

Assessment of scar tissue (including c-section and episiotomy)

Screening for tummy muscle separation (Diastasis Recti)

Pelvic floor assessment (including internal assessment, but only if you wish)

Guidance on how to correctly contract and relax the pelvic floor

Advice and recommendations for recovery moving forward (including treatment & management recommendations or referral if required)

Linda’s additional training allows her to safely perform internal vaginal examination of the pelvic floor muscles and organs. This is a completely optional part of this appointment and will only be performed if indicated and requested, with your valid and ongoing consent throughout.
